On to the sheepskin rug problems:
Can sheepskin rug get wet
Yes, sheepskin rugs can get wet but you need to dry them carefully. The best way is to lay them out flat on your garden or a place where there is direct sunlight. Avoid using hair dryer and such to blow dry them as the heat from these equipment is too much for the rug skin.
How are sheepskin rugs made
We have answered this before in our first article on sheepskin rug but we will repeat them here for first time visitors to our site. Sheepskin rug are made from the pelt of the sheep. This is then processed and make into materials for the rug.
Sheepskin grades
The quality of the sheepskin area rugs or what we called sheepskin grades depend on the quality of the pelt, which in turn is dependent on the the degree of “seed contamination”. The higher quality sheepskin have lessor seeds as these can cause internal tearing. The more seed the pelt has, the higher chance of tearing and causing holes in the rug. Hence, the quality of a sheepskin rug is dependent on how much ’seed contamination’ there is.
We hope this can also answer the inqurity about how to tell good sheepskin rug. It is the same process. You can tell how good a sheepskin rug is based on how many seed it is has in its rugs.
Sheepskin rugs make
This is a strange inquiry and we are don’t know what the user is asking for. We assume that the user is asking for how to make sheepskin rugs. This is not an easy process and I hope that anybody doing this should have some experience orleas it is much better to just purchase one. To make the rug, you need to first get a sheepskin. This can be done by contacting the farm owners around your area and asking them whether you ca buy a sheepskin. Make sure that you ask the provider to skin the sheep for you or else you might not have the expertise to do it.
Once you have the ski, you need to to clean it. This can be done by first soaking them in a cleaning solution. The solution is amde from 6 lbs. of potash alum in 6 gallons of cold water and mixing them with 1 1/2 lbs. washing soda and 3 lbs. salt in 3 gallons of cold water. You need to put the sheepskin into the solution for at least for one week.
After the week, you need to clean the sheepskin and wash the solution skin off the skin. This can be done by using washing power. Make sure that the sheepskin is rinse thoroughly. Once the washing is done, lay it out on a flat surface and allow the excessive water to drain away.
Finally, you need to coat the skin with neatsfoot oil. This is done is two steps. Apply the first layer and allow the oil to be soaked in for an hour. Apply the second layer after the hour has passes and then wrapped the sheepskin up in plastic and let it site overnight. On the next day, you need to rub the sheepskin across a hard surface like the back of a chair in order to make it supple. Do it a few and you should be done. A brand new sheepskin area rug made by you.
How to take care of sheepskin rugs
For normal maintenance, use a vacuum cleaner to regularly remove the dust. Once every year, you can apply a layer of protective oil to maintain the health of the rug. These protective oil can be purchased at any online store or at your local retailer. Currently, our store don’t offer that kind of solution. However, if there is demand in the future, we can include a section in our store to sell protection oil for the rugs.
When there is spillage, you need to gently remove the spillage using dry materials like tissue first. The aim is to get as much of the spillage out as possible without damaging the sheepskin rugs. After which, you need to treat the rug with rug cleaning solutions. There is some misconception about washing sheepskin rug in dog shampoo. This is not the right approach. You should use a cleaning produce that what our store is selling on the right hand side of the our store. This is what are sheepskin rugs treated with.
How to soften sheepskin wool
For this, you will need a rug softener, similar to how fabric softener work. You can use them in the washing machine but make sure that you use one for the rug and not for other things like bed sheets or other types of fabrics. As a note, you can add things like vinegar to get rid of chemicals that cause the sheepskin to become stiffen.
Sheepskin for living room
Sheepskin area rugs can be used to be place at any place in your home. As long as you use them correctly, they can add a lot luxury to your home. Whether it is placed under you coffee table, your sofa or your dining table, they can be used if you can make them stand out by not adding too much other home accessories to overcrowd the decor of your home.
